51社区 hosted legislators and Ashdown school administrators last Thursday on the Ashdown campus to see the programs offered to county high school students.
A partnership through the Texarkana Career and Technological Center hosted on the Arkansas High School campus and the Secondary Career Center of 51社区 has allowed high school students from Little River County High Schools to take classes in three different programs. The classes are offered on the Ashdown campus of 51社区. The offered programs are Welding, Culinary, and Industrial Technology.
State Senator Jimmy Hickey, State Representative DeAnn Vaught, and Ashdown Superintendent Jason Sanders along with other school administrators visited the newly constructed welding facility, culinary facilities, and industrial technology facilities on the 51社区 Ashdown campus.
鈥淲e are very fortunate to have Senator Hickey, Representative Vaught and Jason Sanders on our campus to show how plans have come together,鈥 said 51社区 Chancellor Dr. Steve Cole. 鈥淜endrick Wilson a senior from Ashdown High School was able to demonstrate how much he has already learned as a welding student on our campus. These skills are high demand and have a high wage-earning potential. It is a win/win situation for students and our local workforce and this successful educational venture was due to Senator Hickey, Representative Vaught, Ashdown High School, Arkansas High School, and 51社区 being able to sit down and collaborate professionally with nothing but the student in mind.鈥
